The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT, Spain’s traffic authority) offers several reports with detailed information on vehicles registered in Spain. In this article we compare the different types of reports available, show visual examples and guide you through how to read them so you can make informed decisions.

Types of DGT reports

The DGT provides several types of reports, each with a specific purpose:

  1. Reduced Report (Informe Reducido)
This free report offers basic vehicle information, such as the date of first registration in Spain, make, model, fuel and whether there are liens or incidents that could block the transfer or use of the vehicle. Liens are shown with a colour code: Green, the vehicle can be transferred, Orange, no insurance or ITV (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos, Spain’s MOT), and finally Red, when the vehicle cannot be transferred.
  1. Full Report (Informe Completo)
Provides detailed information, including administrative data, keeper identification, ITV history, mileage, number of previous keepers, liens or encumbrances, technical data and more. Ideal if you want a thorough history of the vehicle before you buy.
  2. Technical Data Report (Informe de Datos Técnicos)
Focuses on the vehicle’s technical specifications, such as power, fuel, dimensions, maximum masses and seats. Useful for checking specific technical features.
  3. Liens Report (Informe de Cargas)
Shows whether the vehicle has liens or encumbrances that could affect its transfer or use, such as attachments, seals (precintos) or a reservation of title. Essential to confirm the vehicle is free of debts or legal restrictions.
  4. Vehicles in My Name Report (Informe de Vehículos a mi Nombre)
Lists the vehicles registered in the applicant’s name. This report can only be requested by the keeper or an authorised person.
  5. Unregistered Vehicles Report (Informe de Vehículos sin Matricular)
Shows whether a vehicle is recorded with the DGT but has not yet been registered. Useful for checking the status of new or imported vehicles.
  6. Vehicle Ownership Report (Informe de Titularidad de Vehículos)
Lets you see who the current keeper of the vehicle is within a specific date range. It can be requested for up to ten vehicles at once.

How to read DGT reports

The header shows the registration details and warnings or key data, with icons in boxes that tell you whether insurance and the ITV are valid. If there are incidents such as liens or attachments, it also warns you with an icon in the header of each page of the report, stating “vehicle with liens or encumbrances”, as shown in the image.

Below we cover the most relevant sections of the Full Report:

  1. Keeper details
Shows the current owner’s information for the vehicle. If there are several owners, they will all be listed, and any paperwork will require authorisation from all keepers.
  2. Vehicle identification
Includes details such as registration number, make, model, VIN, fuel type and registration date.
  3. ITV history
Shows the technical inspections carried out, dates, results and any defects found.
  4. Keeper history
Lists previous owners of the vehicle, with transfer dates and keeper type (private individual or company).
  5. Liens or encumbrances
Details whether the vehicle has attachments, seals, a reservation of title or other legal restrictions that could affect its use or sale.
  6. Deregistration history
Shows whether the vehicle has been temporarily or permanently deregistered, including dates and reasons.
  7. Odometer readings
Records the readings taken at ITV inspections, helping to detect possible mileage tampering.
  8. Technical information
Provides details such as engine power, fuel type, dimensions and maximum authorised masses.
  9. Environmental information
Includes data on the vehicle’s emissions, energy consumption and environmental category.
  10. Vehicle safety
Shows the score obtained in safety tests, such as Euro NCAP, if available.
